Margaret Freeman

USEF Senior Dressage Judge • Former FEI-Level Competitor • Former USDF Executive Board Secretary • Founding Committee Member of Dressage at Devon and CDCTA

Margaret Freeman is a USEF Senior dressage judge with over 30 years on the judge's stand, a former FEI-level competitor, and a founding committee member of both Dressage at Devon and CDCTA. A former Executive Board secretary of the USDF and a seven-Olympics equestrian writer for the Associated Press, Margaret has shaped American dressage both inside and outside the arena.

Margaret Freeman, based in Tryon, North Carolina, is a USEF Senior dressage judge who has been judging dressage competitions for over 30 years. As a former FEI-level competitor, she brings first-hand understanding of what it takes to ride and prepare a horse at the highest levels of the sport.

Margaret has been a central figure in the organizational infrastructure of American dressage. She served as Executive Secretary of the US Dressage Federation and was a founding committee member of both CDCTA (Virginia) and Dressage at Devon (Pennsylvania) — two of the most respected dressage organizations and competitions in the country. She has also been active in youth dressage development through her involvement with Dressage4Kids Inc. and Lendon Gray's Youth Dressage Festival in New York.

In addition to her judging and organizational work, Margaret is an accomplished freelance writer and editor who has covered the equestrian events at seven Olympic Games for the Associated Press. She has been a contributor to Dressage Today and is known for her ability to translate technical dressage concepts into clear, accessible language for riders at all levels. Her depth of experience across competition, judging, and education makes her a uniquely well-rounded voice in the sport.
